This webinar presents GAMAAN’s anonymity sampling method—an innovative survey approach developed for measuring public opinion in authoritarian settings. While traditional survey techniques often fall short in these contexts due to fear of state repercussions, anonymity sampling enables large-scale, anonymous, self-administered online surveys that ensure respondent safety and data reliability. Dr. Maleki will introduce the methodology and explain why it provides more valid data than standard survey modes on sensitive topics. Dr. Tamimi Arab will focus on the case of religiosity in Iran, showing how GAMAAN’s data reveals a significant secular shift that traditional surveys have failed to capture.
